 Buying Pearls?

Cultured pearls are sold by their size in millimeters and are clasified by shape as follows:

  • Spherical Pearls - Spherical pearls are round, which is traditionally the most desirable shape. The rounder the pearl, the more expensive its price tag.
  • Symmetrical Pearls - Symmetrical pearls include pear shapes and other shapes that have symmetry from one side to another, but are not round.
  • Baroque Pearls - Baroque pearls are irregularly shaped. They are often the least expensive category of pearls, but are unique and quite beautiful.
When combined into classic necklace, the necklace size is classified by length as follows:

Collar 12-13 inches (30 to 33 cm): Usually made of three or more strands that hug the neck. A victorian, demure look this elegant necklace goes well with V-neck and off the shoulder fashions.

Choker 14 - 16 inches (35 to 41 cm): The most classic and yet most versatile form that lengthens the neck  and compliments any outfit whether casual or evening wear.

deally suited for crew or high necklines, it is also the perfect compliment for an eye catching pendant.

Opera 28-34 inches (71 to 86 cm): queen of all lengths, a beautiful indulgence for a high neckline. A single strand that falls to the bottom of the breastbone and can be doubled into a two strand choker.
